Purnea College of Engineering (PCE), Purnea gives due importance to sports, physical fitness, teamwork, discipline, and overall personality development of its students. The institute encourages students to actively participate in sports and recreational activities alongside their academic pursuits. Sports activities provide students with opportunities to develop leadership, coordination, team spirit, sportsmanship, and a healthy competitive attitude.
The institute provides sports facilities and equipment to encourage participation in both outdoor and indoor sporting activities. Students are encouraged to participate in games and athletic events such as cricket, volleyball, kabaddi, badminton, table tennis, chess, carrom, athletics, and other sports activities, subject to availability of facilities and events. The institute also continues to strengthen its sports infrastructure; recent additions include a cricket practice net.

UMANG – Annual Sports Fest

UMANG is an annual sports, literary, and cultural festival organized under the aegis of the Department of Science, Technology and Technical Education, Government of Bihar. The festival provides students of government engineering colleges and polytechnic institutions across Bihar with a platform to demonstrate their sporting talent, competitive spirit, creativity, and leadership skills. The state-level UMANG competition has been organized annually since the 2023–24 academic session.
Purnea College of Engineering actively participates in UMANG at the divisional and state levels. The event includes a wide range of sporting disciplines such as cricket, volleyball, kabaddi, badminton, athletics, table tennis, chess, carrom, and other indoor and outdoor events. Participation in UMANG provides students with valuable exposure to competitive sports and enables them to interact and compete with students from engineering colleges across Bihar.

PCE’s Participation and Achievements in UMANG

PCE students have represented the institute in various sporting disciplines at UMANG. In UMANG, Purnea College of Engineering participated at the state-level event, with a delegation of many students. PCE students achieved notable results in chess, high jump, and the 400-metre race, demonstrating the institute’s growing participation and performance in state-level sporting competitions.

The institute’s participation in UMANG reflects its commitment to holistic student development, providing students with opportunities to pursue their sporting interests, develop confidence, demonstrate talent, and represent PCE at higher levels.
